Smoking kills you, I have heard…

Not fast enough to scare you, mind you,

But as it does its insidious task…

It feeds your brain

the wonderful idea of contentment…

Of denial

Of letting go of the pain this world brings

each day

To your doorstep

And so I’m jumping out of this airplane and…

On purpose…

I forgot to check my parachute

And I’ve heard…

That the fall is the thrill of a lifetime

They say, its all downhill from here

But I’m still left asking

As I plummet back to earth

How long, Lord?

How long before

I shall be released.

The Word Forever

it looked like forever

when I started this journey

years and months and days ago

you said the word forever

to me

as we clinked our champagne glasses

chilled and filled, smiled and hoped

and as the years past

it took forever to find you

it seemed like forever to wait for you

it smelled like forever

as the place burned down

and took my dreams and wishes up to the sky

in a trail of smoke

higher and higher

that went on forever
